American record label based in New York City. Owned by Universal Music Group (UMG). A division of [2022] Founded by Avery Lipman and Monte Lipman as an independent label in 1995, and acquired by UMG in 2000. Initially an imprint of The Universal/Motown Records Group, and renamed Universal Republic Records after a reorganization in 2006 (thus merging Republic with Universal Records) before going back to its original name in 2012. In 2024, Republic, Island Records and Def Jam Recordings were aligned to operate under UMG's newly formed "East Coast Operations" unit, Republic Corps. Also appears as "Republic" on some releases.
