Founded in 1997, AWAL is a worldwide distribution company owned by Sony. It also appears as a label at times. From December 2011 to February 2021, AWAL was wholly owned by the Kobalt Music Group Limited and part of the Kobalt Label Services division. In February 2021, Sony Music Entertainment announced the acquisition of AWAL with pending regulatory approval. The deal was completed in May 2021.
