American soul singer, songwriter, producer and arranger. Born: September 9, 1941 in Dawson, Georgia, USA. Died: December 10, 1967 near Madison, Wisconsin, USA in a plane crash. Married to from 1961 until his death, father of Otis III, Dexter, Demetria and Karla, and cousin of . Influential figure for 60s American popular music and considered a seminal artist of Soul and R&B. In 1965, he co-founded the publishing entity Redwal. Of his compositions, best known are the hits Respect and (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay. Inducted to Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 (Performer) and Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994.
