American singer, lead guitarist and main songwriter for Alice In Chains, born March 18, 1966 in Tacoma, Washington. He learned to play guitar in his adolescence and started as a student. He went from Washington to Dallas, Texas to form a band in 1985, but returned to Tacome and Seattle around 1986. After he bacame homeless in 1987, he met in Seattle, who offered him to live in his house. A couple of events later, the core of later band was formed. With the band, he was guitarist, songwriter, co-lyricist and co-vocalist throughout their history in the 1990's, when the band became one of the most successful Grunge bands. The band went on a hiatus in the late 1990's due to drug abuse of Staley, which ended up with Staley's death in 2002. In 1996, Cantrell released his first solo works, in 1998 he released his first solo album. After Staley's death, the band Alice In Chains continued in 2005, now with Cantrell as lead vocalist of the band.
