Scotsman Saul Galpern did the rounds as A&R man with the major record labels before he set up Nude Records in 1991, in his flat in northwest London. He launched the label with Suede, and in 1993 the band's debut album topped the charts, opening the way for further Nude signings such as Sharkboy (2), Goya Dress and Geneva (2). Ex-Associates singer Billy MacKenzie's last album was released posthumously on Nude in 1997, and newer signings Ultrasound (5), Mainstream and Black Box Recorder fill the roster stalwarts Suede. As the label neared its 10th anniversary, Nude Records went into voluntary liquidation, leaving Suede linked with long-time label supporters Sony Music. Part of Nude Records catalogue was acquired by One Little Indian and a number of artists continued on that label. In 2016 the label was re-launched and is still active.
