Apple TV, originally known as Apple TV+ (2019–2025), is an American international OTT video streaming service, launched by Apple in November 2019 and primarily featuring exclusive Apple Originals content, as well as a catalog of licensed films and TV series. The service is available under paid subscription via tv.apple.com or the eponymous cross-platform Apple TV app, accessible on all Apple-"ecosystem" devices, Microsoft Windows, Android, smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony and other common brands, digital players/microconsoles like Roku and Apple TV, as well as PlayStation and Xbox gaming consoles. In October 2025, Apple "silently" announced the rebranding — with an extremely brief mention that "Apple TV+ is now simply Apple TV with a vibrant new identity" buried at the bottom of a routine press-release on the upcoming premiere of Joseph Kosinski's sports drama F1 the Movie. So far, the majority of Silicon Valley and Hollywood media were either skeptical or openly critical of Apple's decision, pointing out it would become increasingly more confusing and frustrating for customers to now deal with a third, entirely different product named Apple TV, besides the already existing physical gadget and the "free-to-download" mobile/desktop app. Furthermore, the tech giant already struggled with that same issue back in March 2019, with the Apple TV media player, introducing Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K product lines that co-existed in different price tiers. Not to mention a handful of Apple products following the same "Plus" naming convention, like Fitness+, News+, AppleCare+, and iCloud+.
