Tropical Diaspora Records

Tropical Diaspora Records® is a Berlin-based label (founded 2015) rooted in the sonic resistance of the African diaspora. Inspired by Frantz Fanon’s de-colonial praxis and Samuel Floyd’s work on Black musical memory, we reclaim the cultural narratives forged in the wake of the Middle Passage and Indigenous dispossession. Emerging from Berlin’s 1990s underground, our founders—DJ Garrincha (São Paulo) and DR.Sócrates (Vigo)—center vinyl as a medium of insurgent memory. a woman shaped like the Atlantic, her hair flowing as the ocean currents—tells this story: of forced migrations, resilience, and the unbroken connection between continents. These are the narratives we amplify, it echoes Floyd’s "rings of signification": her hair, the ocean currents, carries the rhythms of survival and re-creation.
