Memphis International Records is an American independent record label and an integral part of the city’s rich musical legacy. Founded in 2001 by music veterans David Less and Bob Merlis, the label has championed roots music, blues, soul, jazz, and R&B artists from both Memphis and around the world. Since November 2015, Jeff Phillips has been honored to take over ownership of the label, continuing its mission with respect for its heritage and a commitment to expanding its reach. Memphis International maintains an active online presence and offers music in multiple formats, including CDs and vinyl, through its official website. The label’s catalog reflects the depth and diversity of Memphis music, ranging from reissues of classic recordings to new projects by established and emerging artists. Notable releases include *Live In Memphis* by Ann Peebles & The Hi Rhythm Section, *Playing in The Yard* by The Jazz Ensemble of Memphis (a project initiated by Jeff Phillips and his father Johnny, produced by David Less), and albums from James Luther Dickinson, Tracy Nelson, and Ann Savoy. In 2023, Memphis International released *The Way It Is* by The Justus Brothers & Wendy Moten, a fresh rendition of the Bruce Hornsby classic.
