Michael Figgis is best known as a film director (Internal Affairs, Leaving Las Vegas, One Night Stand). He started out studying music and played trumpet and guitar in jazz and rock bands. Figgis moved to London at 18 from Newcastle and got a job as a cleaner at the famous Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. He has written and has played on scores for many of his own films.
