Som Imaginario

Som Imaginário was a pioneering Brazilian rock band formed in 1970 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, initially to back Milton Nascimento on his early recordings and tours. Key members included keyboardist Wagner Tiso, guitarist Frederiko (Frederyko), Tavito, Luiz Alves on bass, and Robertinho Silva on drums, with Zé Rodrix on the debut album. Deeply tied to the Clube da Esquina collective alongside Nascimento and Lô Borges, they blended psychedelic/prog rock, jazz fusion, MPB, and traditional Brazilian rhythms into groundbreaking albums like their self-titled 1970 debut and 1971 follow-up—featuring cosmic guitar solos, experimental jams, and countercultural vibes amid Brazil's military dictatorship. Their 1973 album Matança do Porco explored fusion territory, influencing Brazilian psych/prog while navigating censorship through metaphorical lyrics and instrumental prowess. Disbanding by mid-1970s, members continued as elite session pros in MPB/jazz circles
