A hard rock parody band created by Rob Reiner, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer, Spinal Tap (stylized with a dotless i and an n-diaeresis, mocking the heavy metal umlaut) first appeared in Reiner's TV special 'The T.V. Show'. The team returned to the band for the mockumentary "This Is Spinal Tap", a satire of the hard rock and heavy metal music scene. The band ended up having a life outside of its fictional appearances with Guest, McKean and Shearer going on to release multiple albums and singles, as well as touring and making media appearances under their fictional identities.
