American jazz ensemble, established in 2016 by pianist and composer Jacob Mann (2) and based in Los Angeles, California. The big band has 17 members: five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones, piano/keyboards, an electric guitar, and a rhythm section. The Jacob Mann Big Band debuted with an ironically titled "Greatest Hits, Vol. 1" digital-only EP featuring four tracks composed, arranged, and produced by Mann and self-released via his official Bandcamp. In 2018, the follow-up "[r=33352730]" digital EP came out. In April 2022, the band released their promptly titled "Greatest Hits, Vol. 3" album with eight new compositions clocking at just over 30 minutes. Jacob brought together a second 17-piece lineup to record half of the tracks. Six months later, Think! Records released an exclusive "[m=2891524]" CD/LP available only in Japan. Confusingly, this physical release had the same front cover artwork as the digital-only "Volume 3," despite an entirely different tracklist: a selection of 10 tracks from EPs on vinyl, plus the band's complete catalog on the 18-track CD.
