ExpiatoriA are a heavy doom prog band born in Genoa in 1987. Renowned for their well-crafted and scenically-effective gigs where theater meets music, ExpiatoriA have been playing consistently in Northern Italy since their debut album “Shadows” was released in 2022 (Black Widow and Diamonds Prod.). ExpiatoriA published “Shadows - Live” in 2024, a limited-edition tape containing their debut album in full. FFO Candlemass, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond. ExpiatoriA is Angelex (vocals), Massimo Malachina (guitar), Roberto Lucanato (guitar), GB Malachina (bass), and Enrico Meloni (drums). “Shadows - Live” is the full recording of the band’s debut album, published by Black Widow Records and Diamonds Prod. in 2022. The concert was recorded in the band's hometown, Genoa, during a concert that took place at L'Angelo Azzurro on 16 March 2024 and it showcases the power and energy the band can unleash on stage. The cassette is available in 111 copies only of a limited edition and hand-numbered cassette. The album contains all the songs of the debut album, a new song plus a juicy bonus track. During this time, the songs of "Shadows" have matured with us and they got enriched with new arrangements. If we add that only the Malachina brothers, who also founded the band in 1987, are left of the line-up that recorded the album two years ago, it is clear that the need to publish a more current and powerful version of "Shadow" was very strong. And what better idea than publishing a very raw rendition of our debut album? We didn't touch the songs in the studio to make them sound right or to correct our mistakes, so what you hear is 100% of what ExpiatoriA are on stage», states the band. "If you love dark metal, “Shadows” is an album you shouldn’t miss!" - Gianni Della Cioppa (Classix Metal, Classic) Since the publication of “SHadows”, ExpiatoriA have been playing consistently in Northern Italy at important festivals such as Metal Valley 2022 (supporting Voivod among others), Rock Inn Somma 2024 and Church of Crow Doom Fest II 2024, and with bands such as L’Impero delle Ombre, Sator, Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin, IV Sigillo, Path of Sorrow, Cultø, Cultus Sanguine, Hell Theater, Genus Ordinis Dei, Ponte del Diavolo, Chrysarmonia, Crimson Dawn, Dawn of Winter, Shape of Despair, Black Oath, among others. The band is currently planning more concerts in Northern Italy and Europe for the upcoming future. ExpiatoriA is currently writing and recording songs for a 6-track split that will be published with the band Il Segno Del Comando in 2025 and titled “Voci Notturne”. The three songs by ExpiatoriA are a bit more on the prog territory even though their trademark dark and doom sound is maintained. The split is inspired by an Italian TV series called “Voci Notturne” (“Nocturnal Voices” in English) written by the great director Pupi Avati, a masterpiece of darkness and mystery, broadcasted on Italian TV, RAI, in 1995.
