The Muldoons first met as students in the 90s and played in various line-ups of The Muldoons and The Church Grims. In 2017 The Muldoons got together for a supposed one-off hometown show at Paisley’s Bungalow and the show sold out almost immediately. Energised by the reaction, The Muldoons began working on new material and were quickly snapped up for shows around Central Scotland. Debut single, Lovely Things, was released in 2018 on the band’s own BeSquare Records. Characterised by its optimistic, high tempo and jangly guitars, the release was warmly received and gained extensive radio play within the UK and across Europe and the US. Sell out shows at Glasgow’s King Tut’s and O2 ABC soon followed, as well as a hometown return in front of 700 people at the Paisley Indie Festival. In 2019, The Muldoons released their sophomore single: Don’t Be Like That, Girl, supported by a reimagining of Echo & The Bunnymen’s The Killing Moon. Both tracks received strong praise and radio play and the band continued to grow in stature. In 2020 the Muldoons signed to ‘Last Night From Glasgow’ and their debut album Made For Each Other sold out its first pressing during pre-sale. The album is driven by jangly guitars, trumpets, sweet melodies and stories about growing up, getting drunk and falling in & out of love every week. The album met with critical acclaim and the single ‘In Love Again’ was playlisted worldwide and in the UK on national & local radio. Vic Galloway on BBC Radio Scotland described the Muldoons as ‘classic sounding indie pop’ and the single was BBC Music Introducing’s Single of the Week in July 2020. In 2020 The Muldoons recorded a track for the ‘Isolation Sessions’ charity LP alongside many established artists including Bis, Close Lobsters, Carla J Easton & many others. They followed up with a cover of ‘Cath’ by the Bluebells which was loved by Bobby Bluebell so much he designed the cover artwork for the release. When Gary Crowley played it on BBC Radio he described it as ‘simply gorgeous’. In 2022 the Muldoons released a storming new single called Audacity on LNFG, building on their reputation as up-tempo indie optimists. The track propelled The Muldoons to greater prominence when it was played extensively on BBCR6 by Steve Lamaq & Amy Lamé as well as the Undertones Mickey Bradley. The single was described on Radio6 as ‘a stunner’ and ‘infectiously catchy’ and helped make them one of the most essential indie acts in Scotland. Steve Lamaq said the band write “fantastically wistful pop music”. The Muldoons second album was released by Last Night From Glasgow in Dec 2024 and landed in the Official UK Charts on its release to claim the No1 spot in the Official UK Independent Charts on Christmas day. It’s their highest ever chart placing and reflects the Paisley indie bands’ growing base of fans who had eagerly anticipated its release in pre-sales. DJ Jim Gellatly said it had ‘wonderful echoes of postcard-era Orange Juice’ and the reaction from fans on social media and at the sold-out launch event has been overwhelming. The Album was recorded at Beetroot Studios by producer Stuart MacLeod and mastered by Paul McGeechan formerly of Love & Money. The Muldoons have been part of indie label Last Night From Glasgow for nearly 5 years, releasing 2 successful albums and a slew of singles played widely on national UK radio and with a growing worldwide fanbase.
