Coroner emerged from Zurich’s underground in 1983. They released a demo that year called Depth of Hell, but that didn’t do much. Several band members left. Drummer Marky Edelmann then put together the trio that was going to be the core of Coroner for the coming decade. Ron Broder (aka Ron Royce) on bass/vocals and Tommy Vetterli (aka Tommy T. Baron) on guitar. They recorded the infamous Death Cult demo with Celtic Frosts Tom G. Warrior on vocals. Shortly after that Vetterli and Edelmann joined Celtic Frost as their roadies on a US tour in the summer of 1986. After that experience Coroner was ready to record their debut R.I.P. and from these raw beginnings an extraordinary technical thrash band emerged. They released several stunning albums and toured relentlessly before it all suddenly ended a few years after they released their fifth album Grin. This final album showcased a band at the pinnacle of their musical abilities, with a progressive streak unheard of in thrash metal. The band reformed in 2011 but it took until 2025 before Coroner released Dissonance Theory. The album turns out not to be just a comeback. It is acclaimed as one of the best metal albums of the year, gaining number one spots on many best-of-the-year lists. Ferociously thrashing forward from where the band left off in 1996. Daniel Stössel is live member of Coroner on samples and vocals.
