The D4's most well known line-up is: Dion: Vocals, Guitar Jimmy: Vocals, Guitar Vaughan: Bass Beaver: Drums The original rhythm section consisted of 'English' Jake Harding on bass and Rich Mixture on drums. After recording & releasing their first EP in 2000, Jake left and was replaced by Vaughan. Paul Reid briefly replaced Rich Mixture on drums before the legend that is Beaver Pooley took over the permanent drum stool. And the rest, as they say, is rock n roll history..... After releasing two killer albums, a bunch of singles and touring the world, the band decided to call it quits and after playing two jam packed shows at Auckland's legendary King's Arms (RIP) in June 2006 they went their separate ways. Jimmy formed Luger Boa, Dion moved to the US of A and it looked like that was that for one of the best garage rock n roll bands around. Thankfully, NZ's greatest rock n roll band reformed for (what was then) a one-off 12 date tour of their home country in Feb/March 2018, with original bass player Jake Harding returning to the fold for these shows. And now (hallelujah!) the band are back and touring Aotearoa once again, with 9 shows around Aotearoa New Zealand booked for March 2023, to celebrate the 21st anniversary of their debut album 6Twenty. This garage rock n roll classic was recently reissued on vinyl in NZ as 6Twenty One, having previously only ever been released on record in the UK back in 2002, with updated artwork and liner notes from Jimmy & Dion. Update: The D4 were invited to play at the 2024 Shimane Jett Fest and Shimane After Party, an annual weekend festival organized by their longtime friend Seiji of Guitar Wolf, held in his hometown of Matsue, Shimane Prefecture, Japan. The event took place in October 2024, with the band also playing 3 other shows whilst in Japan - Shinjuku Loft in Tokyo, Namba Mele in Osaka and Varit in Kobe. In February & March of 2025, the band embarked on a tour of New Zealand and Australia in support of the 20th anniversary vinyl release of their second album, Out Of My Head. The tour included 9 dates around New Zealand (including 2 shows opening for Shihad, as part of their farewell tour) and 4 shows in Australia - Brisbane, Sydney (with Hard Ons) and Melbourne (2 shows, at The Tote and The Old Bar).
