Algerian Kabyle rock group founded in 1967 in Paris. They mixed contemporary influences they heard in France (rock, prog, jazz, disco, electronics) with the original rhythms and melodies from the Berber people of the "Tamurt n Iqbayliyen" region in the north east of Algeria. The band's name refers to Berber history. “For centuries, 3 Berber tribes covered an area stretching from Egypt to Mauritania. Two were constantly at war with each other, while the third was considered more pacifist. They were the Branis, who acted as reconcilers" - a form of “allegory regarding the band's objectives” explained Abranis co-founder Shamy el Baz (real name Abdelkader Chemini) in a 2023 article by Jacques Denis for Pan African Music (PAM)..
