Hoelderlin

German Krautrock band from Wuppertal in Germany founded in 1968. Hölderlin evolved out of a 1960's folk group playing and songs. They took their name from the 19th Century writer Friedrich Hölderlin. Originally, they were a family band, the core was the brothers Christian and and with as lead singer and dancer, who became later Christian's wife for 15 years. With a trippy cosmic styled progressive Folk, full of rich textures, psychedelic, medieval and classical touches, they started in 1970 to form an own repertoire. This led to the recording of their first album Hölderlin's Traum, which became very popular in Germany. The follow-up album was produced by and was more Rock oriented then its predecessor. In the following years, they recorded 4 more albums and one live-album in 1978, called Traumstadt, one of the best recepted live-albums of the Krautrock era. In the transition from 1976 to 1977, they also record the first solo album of together with her. In 1981, the band split, but was reactivated by some of the old musicians (e.g. ) in 2005.
