Formed 1982 in Edinburgh by Cinder and David Clancy from the remnants of Scottish punk band The Freeze (2). They've released work with Midnight Music, World Serpent, Praxis Records (as Bambule), Klanggalerie, Lumberton Trading Company, Remodel (Japan), Editions Mego and most recently False Walls. They have also collaborated with such diverse people as Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil, Kathy Acker, Alasdair Gray, Chris Connelly (Revolting Cocks / Ministry), Somatic Responses, Fire At Work, Robert Hampson (Loop / Main) and Toby Reynolds (DJ Scud / Wasteland.) Hard to categorize, they work within a fluid experimental framework and have, since their beginnings, incorporated sampling, musique concrète and electronics as mainstays alongside their more orthodox disintegrating rock structures. Cinder is the only consistent member of an ever-shifting line-up that still plays live and releases regularly. The current line-up of Cindytalk live band (as of January 2026) is Cinder, Massimo Farjon Pupillo (Zu) & Thighpaulsandra (Coil). Two new albums will have January 2026 release dates, That We Must Pass Through This Life (Line - digital issue only January 16th) & Sunset And Forever (The Helen Scarsdale Agency - double vinyl issue January 30th)
