Australian musician, composer, producer and singer-songwriter, active since 1970s. Steve Warner's debut self-titled album was recorded in 1976 and first released in 1979 (and reissued since then), followed by Sketches Of Paradise (1991). By 2015, the recording of a third album, Strange But Beautiful (instrumentals with a quartet) was begun and intended for release in 2016. Steve's psychedelic or art-folk music was originally described as "acid folk". Early influences included the 1960s folk music revival, Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky, and the Beatles, Beach Boys, Donovan, Hendrix, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Jackson Browne, James Taylor and Joni Mitchell. Steve grew up in Mornington, Victoria, and also lived in Hobart, Tasmania, before returning to Victoria (and living in Eltham, Warrandyte and eventually Mount Martha, Mornington Peninsula). He first performed regularly in the band Satan’s Slaves at Mornington church dances. Before recording his debut album in Hobart in 1976, Steve had regularly performed with a group of musicians at Melbourne's coffee houses and folk clubs. While living in Hobart, Steve also did freelance recording and composition work for Spectacle Productions. Eight years later he was back from Tasmania playing with Spiff Rouch and the Untouchables. The following years 1975-1985 involved playing in various bands and production work. Although a journeyman musician Steve later devoted most of his time to music teaching. Renewed interest in his own recorded music gained momentum since about 2012, including various international reissues.
