Steamhammer was a a blues/progressive rock band from Worthing, South East England, England, United Kingdom, that was formed in 1968. The band's origins began with the blues. The band was founded in 1968 by Martin Quittenton (guitar) and Kieran White (vocals, guitar, harmonica). The first stable lineup consisted of Quittenton, White, Martin Pugh (guitar), Steve Davy (bass), and Michael Rushton (drums). During the course of several line-up changes on, the band became more progressive and difficult to classify, first when joined by multi-instrumentalist Steve Jolliffe on their second album, and even more so when bassist Louis Cennamo replaced Davy for the final LP, "Speech" - which was more experimental progressive involving extended instrumentals. Pugh and Cennamo later formed with Yardbirds vocalist Keith Relf and Johnny Winter and Captain Beyond drummer Bobby Caldwell (4) - Cennamo rejoined his Renaissance (4) bandmates in Illusion (24), and Pugh recorded with Hawaii's 7th Order.
