Successor of Jefferson Starship. Following Jefferson Starship founder Paul Kantner's departure, a 1984 legal settlement prohibited the use of the Jefferson Starship name unless all original members agreed to it. The remaining members shortened the name to "Starship," and, fronted by vocalist Grace Slick, the band reached its popular peak with the 1985 album "Knee Deep in the Hoopla." The album generated two #1 hits: "We Built This City" and "Sara". In 1987, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" also reached #1. The following year, Slick left to join the reformed Jefferson Airplane. In 1990, after the "Cannibals" tour, final remaining original member Craig Chaquico left the band.
