American jazz organist. Born: 7 October 1940 in Newark, New Jersey, USA. Died: 30 March 1978 in NYC, New York, USA (aged 37). His characteristic sound involved management of the stops on the Hammond organ, producing overtone series that caused an ethereal, drifting effect; a sound that is simultaneously lead and background. He died from untreated pneumonia in NYC.
