Born in Antwerp in 1947, Joris De Laet is a musical autodidact, interested in avantgarde and experimental music in general. In 1973, he started the Studio voor Experimentele Muziek / Studio for Experimental Music (SEM) to organize concerts on different locations. In 1974, the SEMensemble was created to present the post-production techniques to a live audience.
