Nelson Cavaquinho (1911–1986) was a Brazilian composer, singer, and guitarist, known for his contributions to samba, particularly the subgenre of samba-canção. Born Nelson Antônio da Silva in Rio de Janeiro, he developed a distinctive style of playing the guitar with just two fingers. His compositions often featured melancholic themes, reflecting on love, life, and mortality. Among his most famous songs are "Juízo Final," "A Flor e o Espinho," and "Folhas Secas," many of which were co-written with longtime collaborator Guilherme de Brito. Despite a modest commercial career, his work gained recognition through recordings by prominent artists such as Beth Carvalho and Clara Nunes. His music remains influential in Brazilian popular culture, with his songs continuing to be performed and reinterpreted by new generations of musicians. b.: October 29, 1911 - Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil d.: February 18, 1986 - Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil
