American songwriter and music publisher. Born 22 September 1902 in Kiev, Ukraine, Russian Empire (now Ukraine). Died 10 July 1994 in Rome, Italy. Mellin was born in Kiev, moved to England for a short stay while a baby and with his family immigrated when he was still 1 years old to the United States of which Mellin became a citizen in 1938, but from the mid-1970s made London his permanent home. Mellin charted as a songwriter 21 times in the U.S. and 4 times in the U.K. between 1951-2014. Some of his top songs include "Stranger on the Shore" by Mr. Acker Bilk (#1 U.S., #2 U.K. 1961) (co-written by Acker Bilk), "You You You" by The Ames Brothers (#1, U.S. 1953) (co-written by Lotar Olias), "(I'm Always Hearing) Wedding Bells" by Eddie Fisher (#20 U.S., #5 U.K. 1955) (co-written by Herbert Jarczyk) and "I'm Yours" by Eddie Fisher (#3 U.S. 1952). Mellin was as successful in publishing as he was in writing songs--and his companies published many film scores coming out of Czechoslovakia, Rumania and Italy.
