Born March 21, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, died October 10, 2010, at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. His second wife was Delores Burke. Preached and broadcast from his own church, "Solomon's Temple", in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1945-55 as the "Wonder Boy Preacher". Church was founded for him by his grandmother. First recorded for Apollo in 1954. Left music to attend mortuary school; returned in 1960. Member of The Soul Clan. Father of , Solomon Burke Jr, Melanie Burke, J.F.K. Burke, , among others.
