The Moon was formed in the late 1960s in Los Angeles by songwriter [A=Matthew Moore] with keyboardist, drummer, producer, and engineer [A=Larry Brown], bassist Andy (Drew) Bennett, and guitarist [A=David Marks]. all still in their teens. Conceived as a vehicle for music that felt fresher than the rock and pop around them, the group aimed to create warm, meaningful, and adventurous recordings rather than chase trends. Working at Continental Studio in Hollywood, they locked themselves in for marathon sessions focused on precision, experimentation, and elaborate arrangements. Their work from 1967–1969 produced the albums Without Earth and The Moon, cult favorites later reissued after years of relative obscurity.
