US conductor and composer. Born 1944 in Los Angeles, CA, USA. Son of conductor Felix Slatkin and cellist Eleanor (Aller) Slatkin, and brother of cellist . Music director of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra from 1979 to 1996, the National Symphony Orchestra from 1996 to 2008, then of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra from 2008 to 2012.
