American experimental psychedelic rock band from Los Angeles, California (USA) led by aka (real name James Edward Baker). Baker was the leader of the , a spiritual commune based in a Hollywood Hills mansion who also operated health food restaurant The Source, located on the Sunset Strip near Laurel Canyon. During a prolific 11 month period between 1973 and 1974, the Family recorded a series of jam sessions worth over 60 full-length albums. Initially 9 self-released limited pressings came out on , their private label. They were sold exclusively through their store The Hermit Hut, which was next to their restaurant.
