Kvernberg was awarded the Spellemannspris in the category Jazz in 2011 for his album "[r=5504065]". He was also awarded the Amandaprisen for his soundtrack to the movie "Jag Etter Vind" (2003). His soundtrack to the documentary "Only The Devil Lives Without Hope" won him a Guldbaggen award in 2021.
