American electric bass guitarist, born June 23, 1952 in New York, died October 19, 2025. Anthony Jackson first learned to play the piano before switching to guitar and studied with renowned jazz guitarist Pat Martino. He eventually switched to bass and later (ca. 1974) devised the six-string contrabass guitar which extended the range of the bass guitar by adding a low B string and a high C string. In addition to his main instruments, he also played organ.
