Levee Camp Moan

Late 60s UK blues rock band. The group was formed in Windsor, Berkshire, and comprised of Frank Woodward (harmonica, vocals), Sally Bristow (vocals, piano). Ian Campbell (guitar), Dave Stubbs (bass) and Malcom Ashmore (drums). The band took its name from the old blues number, and his members, manager and various roadies took up residence in a local farmhouse known as Peacock Farm. There they rehearsed until the early hours of the morning to play a mixture of blues standards and their own compositions until they had become a solid unit ready to "take on the world". The influences ranged from the urban blues of Otis Rush, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells to Muddy Waters, Skip James and beyond. The more or less contemporary white blues of the time, Canned Heat, Savoy Brown and Paul Butterfield also served as an important source of inspiration. Levee Camp Moan appeared regularly in London at clubs like the Marquee and Klooks Kleek. Across January/February 1969, they recorded an album at Virgin Sound in Windsor, which was issued in April 1969. The County Recording Services label pressed a small number of records that were sold and distributed to friends at local gigs. Now [r14236991] has becomed one of the most sought-after private British records of the time. In June 1969 the band contributed two tracks to [r10194928], a live compilation of local blues band. In 2002 these tracks was reissued on [r1511707].
