The pianist rarely performed in public and one album with Max Roach for was all that was available for over fifty years. A follow-up with saxophonist , also for Atlantic, in 1965 was not released and long considered lost, but a near complete copy was found to have survived and was issued in 2021 by . Other recordings of Ibn Ali, from the period 1962-65 not originally intended for commercial release, have been issued by Omnivore. Died from a stroke aged about 49.
