Dutch pop band, founded in 1985 by , , , (since 1987) and (in 1994 replaced by ). At first the band is called Wish To Escape and under this name they made a CD in 1989, with lyrics in English. De Kast (meaning The Closet in Dutch) sings in both the Dutch and Frisian language, and is one of the few bands to have had hits with Frisian songs in The Netherlands. Their first nationwide success came in 1997, after started producing and (co-)writing songs for the band. The group managed to chart albums and singles into the early 2000s, but the popularity of De Kast started to wane when an album with new singer and drummer was released in 2003. Syb eventually returned to the band, after trying to pursue a solo career, although with moderate success.
